Miguel Herrera and Jesus Corona smoke from the peace pipe

After days of  conflict between National Team Coach Miguel Herrera and Goalkeeper Jesus Corona, coach and player finally talked and supposedly resolved their differences. The conflict came about when Miguel Herrera said in a local interview that Corona had not taken well his decision of giving the starting GK job to Guillermo Ochoa, to the point of accusing him of getting his orders from "up above". The resulting interview made Corona say that Herrera had broken team ethics and even questioned if he would continue playing with the NT under Herrera. An emergency meeting organized by NT director Hector Gonzalez Inarritu and apparently all is well.

While things are calm now, this is the first of what many people have feared could be a problem with Herrera going on. It's not a secret that Miguel Herrera has enjoyed the limelight from being National Team coach. Probably because he has even said so in interviews. While this can be a good thing and it has even helped the national team by being the old lighting rod coach that Hugo Sanchez so popularized in his time with Pumas, the opposite effect can happen and did with Corona. Herrera crossed the line with the interview and revealed secrets of the national team that weren't taken well by Corona and might not be by other players. All we have to remember is the Monterrey party fiasco in 2011 to know that Mexican players don't take kindly to secrets being filtered out. The old adage "Your Dirty Cloths are washed at home" is very popular in Mexican football and the country in of itself.

The worse thing about it is that there was no need for it from Piojo. While it's possible that Corona may have accused Piojo thru the press about getting orders from other, it wouldn't seem to have been the situation. In case people don't know, the other being refereed to are the higher ups in Televisa, the mexican TV giant many people accuse of controlling the National Team and many more thing in Mexico (if not the whole country). Because of Ochoa's past with America, the accusations of him being favored are numerous especially by the announcing team of the other TV network, TV Azteca. But the decision of giving Ochoa the title spot was proven correct by his great performance in the world cup, where he won international praise. Even more so with the bad luck that Corona had by getting a concussion in the first pre world cup friendly against Israel. Corona had no need to make it after that and the secret was safe. It seems Piojo Herrera just talked too much.

With his right hand pal in the National Team, Ricardo Pelaez returning to America, it seems that things might be different this time. Pelaez was key in keeping Piojo under tabs in America and the National Team and it's a very bad omen that as soon as he leaves, Herrera has his first conflict with a NT player. Everybody in Mexico is hoping Piojo finally gets that the Gossip is better left for one of the numerous Televisa tv shows and not the National Team.
