As Jefferson Montero leaves to Swansea, Morelia suffers
The week that Monarcas Morelia announce that their star Ecuadorian forward, Jefferson Montero is leaving to go to Swansea in the English Premier League, they lost at home against their "brothers" Atlas de Guadalajara. With a golazo by Enrique Esqueda in the 51 minute and a late goal by Edy Brambila, Atlas gets its first victory of the season and Morelia starts at home what should be a very hard season.
Monarcas Morelia offseason was curious to say the least. Losing 2 of the 3 best players in Uruguayan defensive midfielder Egidio Arevalo and their midfield gem , Aldo Leao Ramirez were questionable decisions. This week they decided to complete their terrible moves by losing their other start in Montero. The team was already on a black cloud since when their owner, Mexican TV station TV Azteca, bought Atlas and looked like it would spend most of their money and attention with them. It really looks that way especially when Aldo Leao switched to Atlas becoming the 2nd key name to arrive to the club from Morelia (the first was goalkeeper Federico Vilar a season ago). The players that have arrived (like Uruguayan Hamilton Pereira) really don't look anywhere near the level of the players that have left. This makes it as if they will depend mostly on Duvier Riascos (who shined in Tijuana but nowhere else) and young unproven players as their coach Angel Comizzo explained. With a Libertadores campaign next season and a season that has already given them a loss in their home game, it looks like TV Azteca will have to fork over some cash if the team really doesn't want to become their version of Televisa's San Luis.
